Writing Intensive for July, 2008
. . . in Winter Garden: Writing Marathon

On Saturday, July 19th, we will welcome you at a wonderful writing retreat house in Winter Garden
for a day-long Writing Marathon where, from 9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m., all writers will be invited to catch a spark from our writing prompts or to feed the flames of their longer projects-in-progress.

Recent Woodstream Marathon attendee Marge Clauser, former "Write On!" columnist for The DeLand-Deltona Beacon, says, "The marathon writing day was one of the best experiences I've had. At the marathon I experienced a shift in my mind, spirit, and writing. When the marathon was over, I wanted to stay in touch with the new possibilities the day had brought both to my writing and my life."

The cost for the day, $140, includes all meals, snacks, beverages.

Workshops for Fall: Starting September, 2008
. . . in Maitland: Weekly and Bi-Weekly Workshops

This spring, Woodstream is offering four weekly workshops:
. . . One 12-week workshop
for writers at all levels of experience working in any genre and
. . . Three Bookwriter's Workshops for writers with book-length projects-in-progress;
(Schedules/descriptions for all workshops, below.)

Whichever you choose, as a Woodstream Workshop member you will

  1. learn to reliably produce pages of fresh writing week after week.
  2. find valuable critical approaches to apply to your own writing and that of your peers.
  3. discover what makes your voice strong, powerful, and unique.
  4. submit a manuscript for extensive group feedback.
  5. discuss your work in a private writing consultation with the workshop leader.

1) TWELVE-WEEK WORKSHOP, AWA-style, meets 12 consecutive Mondays,
September 8th-November 24th, from 6:30-9:00 p.m.

About her AWA workshop, Pan Macmillan novelist Julie Compton says, "A good writing workshop is a wonderful thing . . . it can motivate you to do more than just put pen to paper. It can help a writer to see potential in things that might have otherwise been delegated to the bottom of the desk drawer . . . Thanks, Jamie!"

The twelve-week workshop, above, is limited to 10 participants. Writers welcome working at any level of experience, in any genre. Each writer will be invited to submit a manuscript to the entire workshop for review. Cost: $450.

2) BOOKWRITER'S WORKSHOPS: Choose from Tuesday evenings or Wednesday mornings

6:30-p.m.-9:30 p.m.,
on eight alternate Tuesdays:

Woodstream Creative Writers:
Coaching Writers from Beginning to "The End"

Bookwriting. It's a long road, and a lonely one--but you can choose to make it more companionable: Writers at all levels find Jamie Morris a talented, responsive guide to take along on the writing journey.

Jamie is a genius when it comes to the process of writing. Whether I'm developing a character or just brainstorming, one hour with Jamie spins off a whole month's-worth of creativity!
--Jim Shipley, syndicated newspaper columnist, YA novelist

Jamie's guidance provides fuel to keep my writing moving forward. Whether I'm just beginning a new project, trying to dig my way out of the messy middle, or adding the finishing touches, her input has been invaluable. She has a unique talent -- almost a sixth sense, really -- that enables her to immediately understand the heart of a piece and respond with constructive, motivational critique.
--Julie Compton, Pan Macmillan novelist and author of
Tell No Lies

A College Reading & Learning Association Master Writing Consultant, Rollins Writing Program alum, and veteran Rollins Writing Center consultant, Jamie brings her years of writing and editing experience to your project.

Working beside you, Jamie will help you keep your novel (or memoir or self-help book or short story collection . . .) rolling, from first inspiration to first draft completion; from first through final revisions; and onward towards your final goal of publication.

With sharp focus and thoughtful, constructive comments, Jamie gives--most generously--guidance which reflects her depth of experience.
--Peggy Miller, poet, Senior Editor of
The Comstock Review and author of What the Blood Knows

When I'm stuck on my self-help book, the creative energy of my sessions with Jamie gives me a clear sense of direction. She's great!
--Roberta Fish, writer and Mental Health Counselor
